Persistence

Persistence

Hello all -

It has been quite some time since I last posted a blog update. I kept thinking this would be the final post and that I would update on the summer happenings and give some last insights and reflections. Well ...... the blog ( in my head) kept getting longer and longer with the more life continues. And like with any writings, the longer it gets, the longer it takes .... therefore, the more I put it off. So ..... with that note, this will not be a final blog, (maybe in another month that one will come).

For now .....
we had a remarkable summer! My only goal and project was PLAY! And that's just what I did. We had soccer camp with cousins and mountain biking and football camps with friends; swimming, waterskiing, tubing, sailing, kayaking, biking, laughing, laughing, and more laughing at Lake Willoughby; a two day trip to Yankee Stadium; boogie boards and crab hunting in ME; and more and more biking and swimming in Bethel. And that was only the first week ...... :) (just kidding)

But most notably, I returned to Robinson, teaching, after my two year leave two weeks ago. What an incredible place with incredible people. We have a school wide question this year ... and that is "What does persistence look like?"
I just returned from our MARS - Monday Assembly at Robinson School, where our staff performed "Persistence the Musical" for our students as a kick off to this question. And our overlying song we sang was "You can get it if you really want" with the chorus being
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try, try and try,
You'll succeed at last!

So I ask myself, what is persistence? Persistence is try again, try again, try again and succeed at last ....
to kick cancer and to return to a blessed life with my amazing and enduring husband, my three beautiful and enlightening children, our supportive and loving family, friends, neighbors, schools, and communities, as well as this miraculous world we live on. And the gift of seeing it differently! :)

As I was talking to Tucker the other day, I said to him that we need to just adjust to the change of others not helping us now like for the past two years. And he responded saying, "mom, people still help us. We all help each other." The words of our children ......

We all help each other

Remember that each and every day, in some way, we all give to each other.

Just an FYI:
In celebration of persistence, my family will participate in Friday night's Light the Night on the Burlington Waterfront, Sept. 12th. The largest walk happening nationally by the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society that celebrates survivors, remembers loved ones lost in this battle, and raises funds to fight the cure/fund the cure. My family has made a donation as our fundraising goal. So we don't look to go fundraising. But, if you are a family or business that looks to make charitable contributions, please consider donating to LLS. Funds raised support research and treatments for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

Another celebration of persistence:
Leukemia/Lymphoma Society's Team in Training
Other than it's running and triathlon events, this year offers Eight Great Hikes, Oct. 4-5, 2008 in The Adirondack Parks.
So many of you participated in Peak for Pam one year ago. It was amazing!! Consider continuing your peaks this year with Team in Training's hike.
